REMEMBER THIS BEFORE YOU STEP ON SOMEONE’S TOES.

The fact that everyone wants to succeed is admirable. There is this saying:

That the sky is big enough to accommodate every single star in the sky without ever colliding, so also the earth allows everyone to excel without envying each other.

You definitely must have heard of this. Well, if you haven’t, I just brought it to your notice. I watched an episode of Bel-Air and in that episode, Aunt Viv as she is fondly called by her nephew was offered a top position, the executive director of the Neeman fellowship, she could have grabbed it immediately as I was expecting, because this is a big opportunity, but she did something that led me to think. She sat down to think not just about the fellowship but about the other person who was still in that position and who has put in years to get that fellowship to where it was, she thought of her, how she would feel and how she was suddenly going to be pitched against the same person who extended a hand towards her. In my head I was like a girl you got this it doesn’t matter. Then the other lady (hereinafter referred to as Lady J) paid Aunt Viv a visit reminding her and telling her that she was not backing down without a fight. Aunt Viv is quite younger than Lady J, Lady J has paid her dues and I do think she should go and rest (enjoy her retirement). But Aunt Viv did something, she bargained with her. She explained to her telling her how she was going to bring more young artists into the field making it an equal playing ground. She reminded her that her time was up, and the fellowship is grateful she also emphasized how she will be like this top person she will always come to for advice in the future. Aunt Viv told her that she was not backing down either do you know what Lady J’s reply was; kindly download the episode to find out…

Now, it got me thinking but before I tell you a little bit of my thought what would you do if you are offered the same position as someone who gave you a hand in your career when you needed it; more like you are offered that position the person is occupying on a platter of gold. Kindly, drop your answers in the comment section.

Back to my thinking: Why didn’t she grab the position immediately? Because if the tables were turned Lady J may not delay the same way she did. Why did she consider her feelings and emotions, in a world where everyone is clamoring for wealth and success; in the process marching and stepping on each other toes not caring if they are hurt or offended? Why did she consider it? Maybe it is her nature, or how she was raised, I have no idea. A friend of mine will always tell me don’t change who you are unless you will end up bitter. But it is success we are talking about. A lot of why’s and why not. In the end, I got to understand something- your toes will be stepped on maybe one toe or even all😎, you might step on some others too😥 maybe intentionally or not. Even if it is for the right reasons or not. They will be hurt. Some will let you know you did step on their toes; some won’t let you know. Some will forget about it, and some will hold it as a grudge. But in everything, it is for YOU to not intentionally step on people’s toes for the wrong reasons and hurt them in the process. In climbing that ladder of success know when to turn back and say sorry when you do intentionally step on someone’s toes and hurt them. And as for Lady J maybe her time was up in that position what do you think; check out what I have to say in my next post.
