WHAT ACTUALLY MOTIVATES YOU? DRINK A CUP FULL OF IT
Growing up my dad would always promise to get each of us a gift if we did well in our exams. It could be any kind of gift, the excitement from me and my siblings was something else. We immediately put more effort into our academics so we can all get our gift. Most times when we felt tired and just wanted to stop, we remember the reward and gifts and it encourages us to continue and we did, we did not all get it immediately, meaning that for each term(school term)one of my siblings will get the price because they did well in school but that did not discourage the rest of us that didn't get it, it encouraged us to continue and guess what? We all were able to get the gift but in different classes. The gift at the end was enough motivation, so we did not stop until we all got it.
WHAT IS MOTIVATION?
Motivation is that drive to your goals and needs through which you fulfil your potential. In Abraham Mosclow’s theory on the Hierarchy of needs, he stated that people are moved based on their needs and when they fulfil that particular need they move to another higher need and if the higher need is fulfilled, they move to another advanced need that is the circle continues, such needs range from psychological needs-security and safety needs-social needs-esteem needs-self-actualization needs.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
Having gone through this theory I can say for sure that there is something that drives everyone to keep pushing and continue. I am definitely in that school of thought that celebrates and appreciates anyone that is making an effort to become better because you alone can only give yourself the type of life you deserve so you owe it to yourself to at least try, a lot of times you are going to get hurt along the journey, tired, offended and lose job offers and opportunities may be because you are either not good enough or you were just not selected either way, it is easier to say bounce back. So instead of saying you just bounce back, how about you go back and drink a cup full of what pushed you to start in the first place? HOW? You may ask.
As a child the price at the end motivated me to continue putting my best in my studies, at the beginning I did not get the price but consistently and with continuous study, I was able to get the price. So, on such times I did not get the price I simply imagined myself getting the price, and soon my imagination became a reality.
You either promised to get yourself a nice car when you eventually get that dream job or buy yourself something nice or even your family it could be shoes, clothes, jewelry, vacation, house etc. the list goes on and on. So, on such days, you feel less motivated either because you did not get that job, or you have not yet hit that financial target, or because you are exhausted simply go back to your gallery. If you did save the pictures of the things, you intended to do kindly stare at them to your satisfaction. Drink it up with your eyes until you get the satisfaction you want then, continue from where you stop.
Looking at those things is a reminder not to stop or give up. It is you telling yourself: There is still work to be done.
